How DLP™ works.

DLP™  technology relies on the Digital Micromirror Device (DMD), a thumbnail-sized semiconductor. The DMD device acts as a light switch consisting of up to 1.3 million microscopic mirrors, each of which is able to tilt back and forth (on or off) at up to 5,000 times per second.

The spaces between each mirror measures only one micrometre, which is one-seventeenth the width of a human hair. As a result over 90 percent of the projected light passes through the lens for sharper seamless images.

DLP™  technology also handles motion images superbly because the mirrors move at over 1,000 times per second, which is fast enough for the 30 frames per second video frame rate that is the television standard.

Incoming video or graphic signals are turned into a digital code of binary data (0s and 1s) that tilts the DMD mirrors accordingly. When the DMD panel is co-ordinated with a lamp, colour wheel and projection lens, these tilting mirrors combine to reflect a seamless digital image onto a presentation wall, cinema screen, or television screen.

Advantages of DLP™ technology

Brighter:    HP and Compaq iPAQ projectors are among the brightest available because DLP™ technology brings more light from lamp to screen, resulting in more effective presentations - even in a well-lit room or when ambient light is difficult to control

Sharper:    the unique reflective technology of DLP™ comes closest to producing exact mirror image of any incoming video or graphic signal, resulting in projection from the HP projectors that's seamless at any resolution.

Versatile:    DLP™ technology allows our projectors to be small and light, weighing as little as 2.2 pounds (lighter than most laptops) - making them the tool of choice for mobile professionals on the go. Versatile enough for use in conference and meeting rooms, living rooms and classrooms.

More reliable:    HP and Compaq iPAQ projectors are able to recreate their incoming source material with each projection, ensuring a full-impact projection experience that will not fade over time.
